Will Weddings Ever Go Out of Style?

I was at a wedding not too long ago. The church was beautiful, the music divine and everything was perfect.

I watched as friends and families entered and took there appropriate seats. There was a pause in the music and I knew the time had come. I watched the parade of bridesmaids glide up the aisle to the front of the church. A very nervous groom cracked a forced smile at each of them. Then the music stopped, everyone stood and the familiar bridal march started. The bride entered on her father’s arm looking stunning in her gown. The flowers were just the right touch to set off the colors of the day. I immediately tuned to look at the groom to see what his reaction was as he saw his new bride for the first time. He looked calm, there was a smile from ear to ear that was not forced and he seemed to have a look on his face as if she was the only woman in the room and nothing else mattered. I couldn’t help but be excited for them as they started their new life together.

I watched as the couple exchanged vows and pledged their love for each other. Then the minister read a passage from the bible that I had never heard before. It stated some to the effect that one alone has a hard time, two together can do twice as much as one and three intertwined is unbreakable. Tears came to my eyes as I thought how true this is. I knew why people got married and that creating that bond and family together made each of us stronger and unstoppable. Marriage represents taking responsibility for another and making sure you will be there no matter what. That is what our civilization is built upon and without it we would perish.

That was when I knew that marriage will never go out of style. It is more popular today then ever. In these times of uncertainty it is even more important that we join together, take responsibility for others and help each other survive better.

As the ceremony came to a close I felt proud of the fact that I had helped make this day so special. I designed and made the gown the bride was wearing and I knew that someday someone might ask their relative who had made Grandma’s gown and I had helped put that future there.
