The Grandeur That Was Oscar

The most anticipated awards night in Hollywood already culminated with a great bang. The Academy Awards famous for its golden male statue trophy made this year’s event if not that grand but at least a little controversial. This year’s event was attended with a string of big stars and beautiful couples paraded in eventual grandest dresses and tuxedos. Not to mention the elaborate hairstyles and exquisites accessories and jewelries. Who would have thought of an Academy Awards without the dresses made by Armani, Donna Karan, Monique Lhuillier, Elie Saab, Marchesa, Prada, Versace, van Noten, Chanel, Dior, and all the other infamous designers and couturiers? Truly, this affair is the most grandeur in the face of Hollywood.

Life.com listed its most beautifully dressed celebrities that night and it proved affirmation. Among the best dressed ladies were Cameron Diaz, Jenifer Lopez, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Sarah Jessica Parker, and of course the star of that night, Sandra Bullock. Bullock donned a gold dress that commentators intentionally matched with the color of the statue of a man she’s about to accept during the night. Lopez was stunning with her pink Armani Prive dress. Even Queen Latifah paraded in a glamorous Badgley Mischka lavender dress.

Though the men in the occasion did not showcase rather elaborate tuxedos as they wore a usual uniforms and workwear of top executives in Wall St. or the great politicians of Washington they still donned different looks that even magnified their personas. Normally, it would be the men’s grooming that is often seen rather than the kind of dress they wore. For this affair, Antonio Banderas was pictured with grown beard and moustache with brushed up hair. George Clooney on the other hand showed off a little longer hair than he usually has. Jeff Bridges, the Best Actor just made a simple hairdo and trimmed moustache.

Other than the clothes the celebrities wore during the night, people also anticipated the turnout of the events – who’s going to win, which movie will garner much awards. Meryl Streep has become the only actor nominated for several times in the Academy. She also is an Oscar holder both for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress in 1982 and 1979 respectively. Though for this occasion, Streep lost to Sandra Bullock for her performance in the Blind Side. Avatar and the Hurt Locker competed closely during the course of the award but the latter garnered 6 awards and contended the former with only 3. But the most controversial here is not the movie but their directors. James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow were ex-husband-and-wife and competing for Best Director. Bigelow won the Oscar but Cameron brought home large amount of bucks from his blockbuster. Bigelow also made history this year with her Oscar as she is the first woman director to ever win an Oscar since the awards inception in the 1920’s.

Probably as of the moment, writers and editors of different magazines are still drafting their own versions of bests and worst’s dresses but for now be informed by the latest FYI we have from the 82nd Academy Awards. So now, we go back to the normal lives with just uniforms and work wear on as the curtain of the grandest Hollywood awards closes.
